Igbo-Etiti Council Boss Backs Gov. Mbah's Infant Nutrition Drive, Flags Off 4-Day Training For Caregivers.

The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to aligning with the Enugu State Government’s initiatives aimed at improving child nutrition.

Odo made the pledge while declaring open a four-day capacity-building workshop for 30 selected caregivers at the council headquarters in Ogbede

The training focuses on strengthening dietary diversity and integrated care within the first 1,000 days of a child’s life—a critical period for physical and cognitive development.

The council chairman emphasized that investing in infant nutrition is a strategic investment in the future of the community.

He noted that empowering caregivers with proper knowledge and skills would ensure sustainable outcomes and healthier generations.

“This training is not just about feeding children; it is about building a healthier tomorrow for Enugu State.

“The first 1,000 days, from conception to a child’s second birthday, represent a window of opportunity that determines a child’s lifelong health and cognitive potential.

“It is very important to teach our people how to prepare affordable yet highly nutritious meals for children within this age bracket.,” the chairman said.

He commended Governor Peter Mbah for initiating the First 1000 Days Dietary Diversity and Integrated Programming, assuring that Igbo-Etiti would fully adopt the initiative to boost child survival in the area.

He further explained that the 30 participants were carefully selected in line with his administration’s guiding principles of equity, fairness, and justice.

The council boss then urged them to take the training seriously and step down the knowledge gained in their respective communities, adding that the council would continue to support such life-saving interventions.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Prof. Benedeth Okoli, noted that the programme is a strategic intervention to improve nutrition for children within the first 1,000 days of life.

Prof. Okoli revealed that participants would be empowered at the end of the training and disclosed that Igbo-Etiti is among the three local government areas selected for the pilot phase of the initiative.

She urged the people to continue supporting Gov. Mbah’s administration to enable the rollout of more poverty eradication and human development programmes across the state.
