New Bishop consecrated and installed at Nsukka!




Nsukka, Enugu State - A significant event took place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Golden Valley Hotel Ltd, Nsukka. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Chigbo Agu was consecrated and installed as the first Byzantine Catholic Bishop in Southern Nigeria.

The ceremony was performed by three esteemed bishops:

- His Grace Most Rev. Dr. John Ajibola Adeyemo

- His Lordship Kenneth Chukwuemeka Ohamonye

- His Lordship Joshua Adelana Akanle

The event drew attendees from across the country.

The new Bishop thanked everyone for their presence and promised to uphold the teachings of the Greek Byzantine Catholic Church. He acknowledged the challenges ahead and requested prayers for himself and the Church. He also expressed gratitude to the Roman Catholic Mission for their role in spreading the gospel and emphasized the importance of unity among Catholic churches in Southern Nigeria.

His Lordship Kenneth Chukwuemeka Ohamonye called on Christians to embrace the diversity within the Catholic Church. He explained that there are 24 Catholic traditions, including Byzantine Catholic and Roman Catholic. He encouraged unity among Christians and shared his experiences.

Those interviewed expressed gratitude for the new insights gained about the Catholic Church and congratulated the new Bishop. They prayed for unity among Catholic churches for the growth of the gospel.
