Laudable Interventions Of Igbo-Etiti Council Chairman, Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo On Health Sector.

In his pragmatic approach to leadership, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo has overhauled and transformed the Primary Health Centre in Ogbede to the admiration of everyone. 

This renovation, which lasted barely ten days, is clearly a testament of his commitment and determination to reposition primary healthcare to ensure that medical services are accessible to the people living in the remotest part of the LGA.

Dr. Odo, a trained surgeon and ex-chairman of the Enugu State Hospital Management Board, assumed office with an uncompromised vision: to prioritize the welfare of the poor and down trodden as well as standardise the healthcare system in Igbo-Etiti. 

His medical background has greatly influenced his governance approach, emphasizing the importance of functional primary health centres (PHCs) in managing health issues at the grassroots level. 

No wonder during a refresher training for frontline health workers late last year, Odo state categorically that functional PHC is key towards ensuring that rural dwellers access quality healthcare.

Aside from constructing physical infrastructure, the chairman has invested in the training and capacity building of health workers, and gone a step to appealed health personnel, including doctors and nurses to treat patients with dignity and utmost care.

In his 2025 budget presentation, the chairman allocated a significant portion of the ₦5.4 billion budget to capital expenditures, which include healthcare infrastructure and services, which demonstrate his commitment to enhancing essential services for the people of Igbo-Etiti.

He has pledged to cover medical expenses for indigent patients, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to necessary healthcare. This compassionate approach reflects his broader commitment to social welfare and equity.

The renovation of the Ogbede Primary Health Centre has not only improved healthcare delivery but has restored peoples trust in the government. This explains why the benefitting community is full of praises to Dr. Eric Odo for renovating their health facilities.

Indeed, the leadership style in Igbo-Etiti serves as a compelling example of how targeted interventions in the health sector can lead to substantial improvements in community welfare. 

His holistic approach—combining infrastructure development, staff empowerment, and financial support for the underprivileged—demonstrates the profound impact of compassionate and visionary governance at the local level.

As Igbo-Etiti continues to reap the benefits of these health sector reforms, Dr. Odo's  initiatives stand as a blueprint for other local governments aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and promote inclusive development.
