He also pledged to closely work with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in order to make Igbo-Etiti a preferred destination for filmmaking in the South East. Odo made this known on Monday when members of AGN, Nsukka Satellite Zone, led by their Co-ordinator, Mr. Chineme Agu paid him a courtesy visit in Ogbede. According to him, there is no better way to tell the story of people or place other than acting it out, saying Igbo-Etiti would tell their story. He promised to provide adequate security around tourism sites in the area to ensure that actors or actresses coming for film production are protected. The council boss then commended the AGN for the impact they are making as well as the opportunity they had provided to talented-youths to showcase their talents. While adding that it had helped to curb youth restiveness...

CNPP, CNCSOs Demand Justice, Accuse Security Agencies and EFCC of Shielding Mele Kyari Amid Expanding NNPCL Corruption Scandal.

Image
The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have again declared vindication over their persistent calls for a probe of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under the leadership of the recently removed Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Mele Kyari. This follows the arrest of top management officials by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged monumental corruption. In a joint statement signed by Comrade James Ezema, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of CNPP, and Alhaji Ali Abacha, National Secretary of CNCSOs, the groups lambasted security agencies for allowing Engr. Mele Kyari to travel abroad while individuals who served under his leadership have been arrested and detained. “We have consistently raised alarms over the brazen corruption and mismanagement at NNPCL. Today, while the EFCC is busy arresting the small masquerades, the chief masquerade is still dancin...

HURIWA Calls for Immediate Halt of Lower Court Proceedings in Niger State Land Dispute, Blasts NBA Minna Chair for Undermining Judicial Hierarchy.

Image
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for the urgent intervention of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria over what it described as a clear breach of judicial ethics and hierarchy in Niger State, where Justice Bilkisu Yusuf of the Niger State High Court is reportedly set to deliver judgment in a matter that is already under consideration by the Court of Appeal. In a strongly worded statement issued by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA expressed shock and deep concern that despite the existence of a valid appeal—Appeal No. CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/1392MI/2024—Justice Yusuf has continued to preside over proceedings in Suit No. NSHC/MN/247/2014, in what legal experts have termed a direct “judicial collision” with the appellate court. HURIWA cited the official Court of Appeal record dated January 22, 2025, which confirms that the appellate court has commenced sittings on the matter. The appellants, Found...
