In a resplendent display of cultural heritage, Edoga Joseph Ezugwuorie, graciously acknowledged as Attamah Atazz, celebrated the esteemed Iwa Ji festival at Obu Umu Ugwoke, Isu Village, Edem Ancient Kingdom, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State. This grandiose event, held in 2024, surpassed all previous festivities in the kingdom since the legendary discovery of yam by Edem Ancient Kingdom's intrepid hunters.
The Attamah Atazz's Iwa Ji festival featured an extraordinary display of generosity, with over 300 tubers of yam fried and 1,500 tubers distributed among the populace, accompanied by a hen (local live chicken) for each recipient. Select elder statesmen were honored with rams. The occasion showcased an array of vibrant masquerade activities, including the revered Esato Edem , held in high esteem throughout Edem Ancient Kingdom.
Women from various villages participated actively, with elderly women leaders (Lolo Anyi) presenting plates of cola nuts, accompanied by melodious rhythms. Distinguished personalities from diverse fields attended, bearing witness to the festival's majesty. Attamah Atazz's ceremonial cutting of the yam was preceded by fervent prayers for peace, unity, and progress within Edem Ancient Kingdom.
The festival's proceedings were expertly anchored by renowned Master of Ceremonies, Mc O one of Gwodo Gwodo 120 from Prime Sports Radio 104.9fm Enugu, and the versatile Mc Wakete from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The electrifying Odabara Traditional music group added to the festivities, delivering an unforgettable entertainment experience.
The gathering offered special prayers for Attamah Atazz and Super High Chief Lolo Ngozi Ezugwuorie (Orieochetebe 1), the kingdom's esteemed daughter. The event culminated in an atmosphere of gratitude and praises.
