A heinous crime has shaken the tranquil town of Nsukka, Enugu State, leaving a family in irreparable grief. On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at approximately 7:00 pm, a gruesome murder occurred at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Ndubisi Ugwu, resulting in the tragic death of their 4-year-old daughter, Zina Ugwu, affectionately known as Pigin Lady.

According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrator, Mr. Emeka Nweke, alias Owo, who is from Udi LGA, stormed the Ugwu family compound, located on Orba Road, Nsukka LGA, and brutally slaughtered the young girl. Our reporter gathered that Owo, a known associate of the family, had been previously warned against by Dr. Ugwu due to his questionable character.

In a chilling account, Mrs. Ugwu recounted how Owo forcibly entered their home, separating her from her children. She frantically sought help, but before assistance arrived, the unthinkable had occurred – Owo had taken the life of their innocent daughter.

Dr. Ugwu, visibly distraught, expressed his devastation, stating, "It's like a film to me. I left my family healthy and happy, only to receive a call that my daughter is dead." He lamented that his warnings about Owo's character had fallen on deaf ears.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Owo's actions may have been influenced by his alleged addiction to Indian hemp. The case has been transferred to the State CID Enugu, with efforts underway to unravel the motivations behind this heinous act.

As the Ugwu family mourns the loss of their beloved daughter, the community remains in shock, grappling with the senseless brutality of the crime.
